Small business owners beware of bogus invoice

Small business owners should be on the lookout for a bogus invoice for ‘telecom maintenance’, according to the Arizona Attorney General’s office.

This bill is an invoice for warranty covering telecom maintenance, and it appears to be an attempt to scam money from unsuspecting small businesses.  This invoice claims that businesses need to pay for services that they have never purchased.

The fee requested on the invoice, for $425 is a solicitation.  The document looks real and ‘official’ enough, it has a reference number and ‘maintenance terms and agreement’ on it, but the Attorney General is advising businesses to review invoices that resemble this one closely before paying it.

If you believe you have been a victim of consumer fraud, please contact the Attorney General's Office in Phoenix at 602.542.5763, in Tucson at 520.628.6504, or outside the Phoenix and Tucson metro areas at 1.800.352.8431. Consumers can also file complaints online by visiting the Attorney General’s Web site at www.azag.gov.
