Canine nose and x-ray equipment help bust potential smuggler | Crime
It might have been modern technology that found the stash, but it was a good old fashioned nose that sniffed it first.
Yesterday a canine unit, with the Nogales Border Patrol alerted to a potential drug smuggling vehicle. Agents working the I-19 checkpoint conducted a secondary inspection on a vehicle the canine agent alerted to earlier.
The secondary inspection was conducted using x-ray equipment, which enabled the agents to find two bundles of marijuana weighing about 50 pounds and valued at $25,000. The bundles were concealed in an aftermarket compartment.
Both the drugs and the vehicle were seized and the driver and alleged smuggler was arrested.
